August B. Cordeiro was appointed vice president for patient support services at Rhode Island Hospital in 2001 and chief administrative officer in 2002. Before coming to Rhode Island Hospital, he served at Newport Hospital as vice president of professional services. Cordeiro is responsible for a variety of clinical and operating departments and services at Rhode Island Hospital, including diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, respiratory care, case management, volunteers, transport, and radiation safety. He leads current efforts at Rhode Island Hospital to improve the patient experience and neighborhood relations and is responsible for the development and maintenance of all hospital-wide policies and procedures. Cordeiro holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s in health services administration from Salve Regina University. He is a board-certified fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and serves as ACHE Regent for Rhode Island.
