The
Community Physician Alliance Service (CPAS) was designed to assist
physicians in caring for their patients admitted to the medical service
without house-staff involvement.
Our Staff
The program is staffed by fully trained nurse practitioners, all
of whom are members of the University Medicine Foundation. These
individuals are available to assist in the care of patients admitted by
their primary physicians to Rhode Island Hospital.
Coverage
Cross coverage services on inpatients is available from Sunday night at
8 p.m. to Saturday morning at 7 a.m. In the unfortunate event of a death
at night, the CPAS provider will perform the pronouncement but the final
certificate is the responsibility of the primary care physician and may
be completed the following day.
Night Admissions
Every night, starting at 8 p.m., the covering practitioner will write a
holding note and enter orders on any admissions admitted to the general
medical floors at Rhode Island Hospital, up to a maximum of eight
admissions nightly. The CPAS provider will not bill for any services
rendered.
