The Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence has been given to just four percent of the more than 6,000 critical care units in the United States.

A Culture of Safety

It’s not about the talk. At Rhode Island Hospital we actively seek out ways to improve the care of our patients and respond immediately with solutions when we find that care has been less than optimal.

Accountability

“Here, every person plays a critical role and is responsible for ensuring quality and promoting patient safety. We hold every staff person accountable for ensuring 100 percent compliance with our safety policies and procedures.”

–  Cathy Duquette, PhD, RN, Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, Rhode Island Hospital

As an organization, we voluntarily report to state and national accreditation organizations and publish data about our quality outcomes and patient survey results on our website for the public to examine. Although we regularly open ourselves to rigorous reviews of our hospital processes and services, we believe that our ultimate accountability is to our patients and their families.

What we do to help keep patients safe

From electronic medical records to our automated laboratory, Rhode Island Hospital has developed, tested and implemented many initiatives that have resulted in safer care for our patients.

Raising the bar for quality care

Rhode Island Hospital staff and physicians work together as a team to actively find ways to improve the quality of care we provide to our patients.
