Rhode Island Hospital is the first hospital in Rhode Island to offer positron emission tomography, or PET, which provides physicians and patients with superior diagnostic information. In the three decades since its development, PET has demonstrated that it is a clinically proven and safe method for detecting specific cancers, heart disease and neurological disorders.
Our PET technology truly is state-of-the-art. By using a new detector material called gadolinium oxyorthosilicate, Rhode Island Hospital's PET scanner produces higher quality images and works more quickly than older PET scanners. This technology reduces full scan time from one hour to approximately thirty minutes.
The medical staff is experienced in PET scan interpretation and is board certified in diagnostic radiology, with additional fellowship training and certification in nuclear medicine. Our specially trained technologists are also experienced in PET imaging.
