Background
Under Levy's direction, the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Rhode Island Hospital was named a 2004 Circle of Life Award honoree by the American Hospital Association. The award is presented to programs that have made great strides in palliative and end-of-life care. The MICU was recognized for its outstanding program of caring for patients near the end of life or with life-threatening conditions and was one of only ten organizations from across the country to be recognized.
Levy has served as the Chair of the Robert Wood Johnson Critical Care End-of-Life Work Group since its inception in 1998 and in 2001, chaired the 30th International Educational and Scientific Symposium of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is currently a senior editor for the Journal of Critical Care and has authored numerous articles and book chapters in the field of critical care medicine.
In addition to his role at Rhode Island Hospital, Levy is also a professor of medicine at Brown Medical School in Providence, RI. Levy is a Council Member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the former Chair of the Critical Care section of the American College of Chest Physicians.
