John Murphy, MD

John B. Murphy, MD is vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer for Rhode Island Hospital. He is also professor of medicine and family medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the president of the American Geriatrics Society.

Murphy is a graduate of Union College and an AOA graduate of the Medical School of the State University of New York, Brooklyn. He completed a residency, and was chief resident in family medicine, at Brown University, where he also completed a fellowship in geriatrics.

Murphy's career has focused largely on medical administration (education and clinical programs) with a national and international focus in geriatrics and primary care, particularly in graduate medical education. He has authored more than 80 publications, including books, book chapters, peer reviewed articles, and abstracts, and has lectured throughout the United States and internationally. He is the recipient of grant funding from the NIH, HRSA, CDC, and other foundations/organizations.
