Investigator and Science Seminar Series
Our COBRE Science seminar series started with Dr. Jason Machan’s excellent tutorial of statistical analysis for basic and clinical researchers on November 28, 2007. Jason is part of the Administrative Core of the COBRE, who devotes 10 percent of his efforts to COBRE-related projects. These meetings are held at 1 p.m. in the Orthopaedic Resident’s Library at 2 Dudley Street, Providence.

Meeting
Reserve your date for the Biennial Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Program Symposium from Wednesday, August 6 to Friday, August 8 at the Wardman Park Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. This symposium will bring together IDeA program participants to showcase their accomplishments, exchange ideas, foster collaborations, encourage educational opportunities, demonstrate the program's progress in developing biomedical resources and research capacity in IDeA states, and participate in strategic planning sessions to further develop, improve and grow the IDeA Program.

There will be scientific sessions and poster presentations highlighting areas of research supported by IDeAs Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), as well as technical and administrative sessions and workshops. We encourage attendance by principal investigators, program coordinators, investigators, staff, and students from IDeA research institutes and institutions and from partner undergraduate institutions. This meeting is open to all interested parties.

Extramural Funding
Congratulations to both Dr. Lei Wei and Dr. Gregory Jay. Dr. Wei has just received funding from Aircast Foundation ($50,000/year for two years), while Dr. Jay has received an outstanding score for his R21 application to NIH.

Publication Requirement
Publications and extramural funding are the two most important benchmarks for the success of COBRE. This is a reminder that all publications should contain an acknowledgement as follows:

"The project described was supported by Grant Number P20RR024484 from the National Center For Research Resources. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Center For Research Resources or the National Institutes of Health." This applies to all relevant manuscripts published by personnel supported in whole or in part, by COBRE including investigators, mentors, and staff in the research projects and cores.

Award recipients are required to submit to PubMed Central (PMC), upon acceptance for publication, an electronic version of peer-reviewed, original research publications resulting from research supported in whole or in part with direct costs from National Institutes of Health. The author's final manuscript is defined as the final version accepted for journal publication and includes all modifications from the publishing peer review process.
