Cardiothoracic Surgery
Our Team
 The cardiothoracic surgical team is a multi-disciplinary one.Our specialists and nurses work as a team under the direction of a surgeon before, during and after your surgery. Our multidisciplinary team consists of four board-certified cardiac surgeons who work with our critical care nurses, physician assistants, perfusionists, respiratory and physical therapists and anesthesiologists.
Nurse Practitioners
Another unique aspect of cardiac care at Rhode Island Hospital is our nurse practitioner model. Under the direction of a surgeon, advanced nurse practitioners experienced in acute cardiothoracic surgery are chiefly responsible for coordinating all services from your pre-surgical testing, through hospitalization and discharge. Available around the clock, seven days a week, our nurse practitioners will educate and prepare you and your family, answer questions about prescriptions and provide your family and friends with updates from the operating room.
