Progress Overview

The COBRE Center for Cancer Research Development (CCCRD) at Rhode Island Hospital seeks to coalesce and foster outstanding, interactive, laboratory-based cancer research centered on the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of cancer. The administrative core was very active during 2003-2004 in providing research support as well as career development and continuing education activities for CCCRD investigators.

The long-range plan – to build a critical mass of investigators in four different thematic areas relevant to the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal cancer – is being accomplished by establishing an intellectually dynamic training environment with state-of-the-art core facilities. Mentored by senior investigators, junior investigators are building their research programs to become nationally competitive, independently funded and interactive with other investigators. Based on their accomplishments to date, we feel very confident that our current roster of junior investigators will make great strides towards the completion of the CCCRD mission.

Projects are also directed towards another CCCRD goal, which is to foster the translation of basic research discoveries into new methods for diagnosis and treatment.
