Our Research

achievement awardees

On September 29, 2007 Liz Morrell of our staff was presented with an award from the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN). The award for Outstanding Contribution was given for Liz's exception work on the National Lung Screening Trial protocol team. This is the most recent of seven awards that our group has received.

The Process

Rhode Island Hospital, its pediatric division, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and The Miriam Hospital are members of Lifespan, southern New England’s largest health care system. Lifespan has three Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) which each meet once per month to review research proposals for its member hospitals. Lifespan faculty can submit to any of the three IRBs.

The Community

Rhode Island is a very stable community from which to enroll subjects for clinical research. The small size of the state allows Rhode Islanders to travel to Rhode Island Hospital from anywhere in the state in an hour or less. We also recruit a large number of subjects from southeastern Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The Projects

The Division of Imaging Research was established in 1990 and has successfully completed both federally-funded and industry-sponsored research trials. We have participated in seven federally-funded cancer imaging trials through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN). We have also completed phase I, II, and III trials with several pharmaceutical companies, and have collaborated with many companies seeking pre-market and post-market FDA approval for medical devices. We have extensive experience working with various clinical research organizations and are facile with both paper and electronic data submission.
