Technical Standards for Radiologic Technology

Physical Standards:

Stoop

  • to lift rediographic image plates, grids and films

Kneel

  • to perform CPR; to assist patients who may fall or faint

Crouch

  • to place radiographic image plates in the operating room table

Reach

  • at least 6’ from floor to overhead radiographic equipment

Handle

  • equipment such as overhead tube, lead-lined doors, portable machine, c-arm unit, control panel knobs and bottoms

Maneuver:
  • patients in wheelchairs and stretchers; IV poles; oxygen tanks patients on and off the radiographic table; in and out of wheelchairs patients who may fall or faint

Lift and Place:
  • patient and film for portable radiography

Walk

  • for duration of assigned shift

Wear

  • lead aprons, thyroid shields, and lead gloves

Hear

  • verbal directions/requests from physicians, patients, etc.
  • blood pressure sounds through a stethoscope
  • speed of rotor to take exposure and termination sound
  • signals from CR reader

See

  • requisitions for information related to images
  • proper position of patients for images
  • proper equipment setup for images
  • proper exposure settings for images
  • motionlessness; respiratory phase of patient

Talk

  • to communicate in English to staff; patients, etc.

Manipulate.

  • small objects such as knobs and bottons, needles and syringes (venipuncture), etc.

Mental/Attitudinal Standards:

  • Function safely, effectively, and calmly under stressful conditions
  • Maintain composure while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Prioritize multiple tasks
  • Exhibit social skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families, supervisors and co-workers of the same or different cultures, such as respect, politeness, tact, collaboration, teamwork, discretion
  • Maintain personal hygiene
