Neurodevelopment Center (CNDC), have partnered to pilot test a Safety Store initiative which will provide families of children with disabilities or special health care needs injury prevention education and appropriate safety equipment.

In 2009, CNDC staff recruited and enrolled more than 300 families into the pilot study. CNDC clinicians and paraprofessionals conduct injury prevention assessments with families as part of their standard home assessment and provide them with injury prevention education and free injury prevention equipment, when appropriate.

This study measures parental perception of injury hazards within the home and use of home safety equipment. It is expected that findings from this study will support the development and implementation of a free standing Safety Store within Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
