RI Gambling Treatment Program

The Effectiveness of Our Program

  • The most important question we try to answer is, "Do our patients get better, and do they stay better?"

Before we can answer that question, we need to define "recovery" from problem gambling. There are many ways recovery can be defined, but we measure a combination of factors, including the frequency of gambling, the amount of money lost, distress, impairment and loss of control over gambling.
More about our research methods

Percentage of Patients who
Have Abstained from Gambling

(118 patients surveyed)

Money Lost by Patients
30 Days Before and After the Program

(101 patients surveyed)
Number of Days Spent Gambling
30 Days Before and After the Program

(101 patients surveyed)

By looking at these factors, we have concluded that 76% of our patients had achieved significant improvement (by our definition) at 6, 12 or 18 months after entering our program. To our knowledge, these results are as good or better than any published reports of other programs.
