Donor Guide
Other Tests Before Surgery
The donor should leave the first appointment
with the nephrologist with a complete list of the remaining
tests, detailed instructions and a schedule to complete them.
The following tests will need to be completed:
- Two 24-hour urine collections for creatinine clearance
and protein. The first should be completed as soon as possible
and the second may be completed at any time during the process
as long as it is at least 4 days after the first collection. The
donor must bring the urine collection to the lab the morning the
collection is completed. At that time, blood will also be drawn.
- A serologies blood test that is completed by both donor
and recipient. Certain communicable diseases may be transmitted
from donor to recipient by way of the kidney. The blood is tested
for hepatitis B&C, HIV, syphilis, cytomegalovirus (CMV) and
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
- A renal ultrasound, a procedure that the transplant secretary
will schedule.
