Psychiatry Emergency Services (PES) provides emergency psychiatric evaluation and crisis management for adults, adolescents and children, with linkages to treatment programs for needed follow-up care.
PES is available for urgent interventions when other services are not available.
PES runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffing includes psychiatrists, psychiatric clinical nurse specialists, psychiatry residents and social workers. The program is located adjacent to the Rhode Island Hospital emergency department in a new specially designed facility. By sharing diagnostic and medical treatment capabilities with the most advanced emergency department and trauma center in the region, PES is uniquely able to assess and treat psychiatric and medical issues.
PES staff works closely with referral sources, family members and other Lifespan partners to provide efficient, quality care in the least restrictive environment possible.
