High School Volunteers

High school students interested in volunteering at Rhode Island Hospital must first attend a one-hour information session. Students must be at least 14 years old to volunteer at Rhode Island Hospital. To volunteer at Hasbro Children's Hospital, students must be 17 and a senior in high school, or 18 and older. There are very limited opportunities for high school seniors. Students under 18 must submit a signed permission slip.

High school volunteers work in the following areas:

  • Greeters
  • Patient services
  • Office support
  • Recovery room
  • Central transport
  • Gift shop

Students are asked to commit a total of two to four hours per week for a total of 50 hours. Certificates or letters of completion will be given after the 50 hours are completed.

Volunteers will be asked to complete the following after their information sessions:

  • Attend a one-hour volunteer information session
  • Interview with the volunteer coordinator or manager
  • Provide an updated immunization record
  • Undergo two tuberculosis tests
  • Signed permission slips
  • Complete an orientation
  • Commit to a minimum of 3-4 hours per week
  • Adhere to uniform and dress code policies
The high school spring and summer programs are now full. Please check back in early August for information about volunteering in Fall 2013.
