  • High School Summer Volunteers

Please note: The 2015 summer program is currently full. Please check this website in August for information about fall volunteer opportunities.

High school students interested in volunteering during the summer at Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children's hospital must first attend a one-hour information session. Students must be at least 14 years old to volunteer at Rhode Island Hospital. To volunteer at Hasbro Children's Hospital, students must be 17 and a senior in high school, or 18 and older. Students under 18 must submit a signed permission slip. Students who are new to the Rhode Island Hospital volunteer program will be placed as a volunteer greeter.

The summer program typically starts in the third week of June and ends the second week of August. Students must complete at least six weeks out of the eight-week program. Certificates will be given after the student has successfully completed the program.

Volunteers will be asked to complete the following, after attending an information session:

    • Interview with the volunteer manager or coordinator
    • Provide an updated immunization record
    • Undergo two tuberculosis tests
    • Submit signed permission slips
    • Complete an orientation
    • Commit to eight hours per week
    • Adhere to uniform and dress code policies
