The Honorable and Mrs. Bruce M. Selya

The Honorable and Mrs. Bruce M. Selya“We feel proud to support Rhode Island Hospital because we know that every dollar and every hour we give will pay enormous dividends for our family, our friends, our neighbors, and the state of Rhode Island.” —The Honorable Bruce M. Selya, Senior U.S. Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Mrs. Cynthia M. Selya, Living Heritage Society members.

Bruce M. Selya is a senior federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and has enjoyed a celebrated law career. His passion for helping others led him to serve as vice chair of the Board of Trustees of Rhode Island Hospital and inaugural chair of the Lifespan Board of Directors. In 1999, Lifespan established the Bruce M. Selya Award for Excellence in Research to honor Bruce’s commitment to academic medicine and his pivotal role in the creation of Lifespan. Cindy Selya, an attorney and gifted artisan, has worked hand-in-hand with Bruce over the years to help shape the Lifespan health system. Together, Bruce and Cindy are tireless advocates for Lifespan and we owe them a great debt for their years of selfless service, dedication, unflagging energy and philanthropic support, which has helped make Rhode Island Hospital the premier academic medical center it is today.
